About

The Hatch family comes from a long line of people descended from a common ancestor: the austrolipithicus. That’s right, we all share a common desire to eat, sleep, reproduce and laugh whenever somebody snorts.

Our particular branch of the Hatch family hails from Ohio, New York and Australia, which is why we now live in Arlington, Va. The next generation (see below) is already well on her way to a career as a legal counselor and/or union negotiator.

I’m currently at The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle of Philanthropy as the Assistant Managing Editor for Digital after spending a delightful year as a Knight Science Journalism fellow at MIT. I’m the former president of the Online News Association and an adjunct lecturer at American University where I earned a Master’s Degree in News Media Studies. If I were a real academic, I’d go on, but I’m not so I won’t.

If you want to contact me, feel free to email at hatchjt at mac dot com. (Does that obfuscation even work any more?)

Oh, I forgot to mention our dog. He likes to lick himself. But, don’t we all?
